New Language Resources
-KNP (provider: Kurohashi Lab, Kyoto University)
Dependency parser. This divides the entered sentences into segments and analyzes the modification relations between them.
-Juman (provider: Kurohashi Lab, Kyoto University)
Morphological analyzer. This divides the entered Japanese sentences into morphemes and provides the lemma and part of speech of each morpheme as an output.
-EDR (provider: NICT)
Already provided as an ordinary dictionary, a new interface extends it as a concept dictionary. Concepts, as well as semantically related terms, can be searched by entering headwords.
Monthly Maintenance
Notice from the Language Grid Operator: The Language Grid will be suspended for maintenance on the first Monday of every month. The next maintenance will be conducted from 7:00 to 10:00 JST on Monday, October 6. The Wiki for Developers
A new Web site “Language Grid Developers Page” has been published. In this site, you can find all documents and source code for system developers using the Language Grid, including manuals and specifications. The latest documents and source code will be released in this site occasionally. Check the Web site below for the latest technical information.

IWIC2009: Deadline for poster and demo has been extended
Notice from IWIC2009, International Workshop on Intercultural Collaboration: The deadline for posters and demonstrations has been extended. The new deadline is Saturday, November 1.
Language Grid Users: NPO Pangaea
NPO Pangaea conducts research and development to provide a “Universal Playground,” where children across the world can develop personal bonds that transcend the boundaries of language, culture, and distance. To overcome the barriers of language and distance, we developed Picton (pictograms) and Pangaea Net (SNS for children). A total of 3,000 children are communicating with each other across Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Mie), Korea, Kenya, and Austria.
Before we joined the Language Grid Project in 2005, we confronted language barriers in the communication between the staff members overseas. Now, to facilitate our understanding of each other, we use a translation tool with a registered dictionary of special terms for Pangaea, and this has improved the efficiency of our work. We have also developed our own BBS embedding the Language Grid as our own community site. With this site, we hope to deepen the bonds between children as well as the staff members who support our activities. This would not have been possible without the Language Grid. We are grateful for the project.
