Software Manual Updated and Core Node Package Released

[Language Grid Software Manual]
  This manual provides the instructions on installing and configuring the three software applications provided by the Language Grid Project. The instructions have been added to the "Service Manager," the GUI used for managing the Core Node. This manual also provides the instructions on "Language Grid Core Node" that provides the functions of information management and language service call and the "Language Grid Active BPEL Extensions" that provides the function of compound service execution. The manual also provides links to other manuals that provide instructions on how to create/register/execute services.

[Language Grid Core Node Package]
  The Language Grid Core Node Package has been released. It includes the Core Node, Active BPEL Extensions, and the Service Manager. For detailed instructions on how to use these applications, refer to the Language Grid Software Manual.

(Update 2010/6/23)Currently, the Language Grid Core Node is released as Service Grid Server Software.

Doshisha University NIS Lab++ Team Goes to Imagine Cup 2009 World Competition!

  The "NIS Lab++" team from the Network Information Systems Laboratory in Doshisha University, who wrote the article on Language Grid Users in this month's issue, won the domestic competition in Japan and is now set to participate in the worldwide finals of the Imagine Cup 2009 to be held in Egypt! Congratulations! The Imagine Cup is an IT competition for students and is hosted by Microsoft.
  The team presented the "PolyBooks" system at the competition. This system multilingualizes free textbooks available over the Internet and distributes the electronic data to schools. The Language Grid is used in the system. Some members of the team commented on their win as follows: Dr. Takahiro Koita said, "We made it because we successfully presented the great potential of Language Grid through our application, PolyBooks. We deeply appreciate the project that developed and provided us the great technology of Language Grid. We will promote the technology to people throughout the world through the competition;" Mr. Kohei Kadowaki added, "I am very happy with the win at the final in Japan. Language Grid allowed us easy multilingualization of the textbook contents. We will try our best at the world competition."

Language Grid Users: Network Information Systems Laboratory, Doshisha University

  The Network Information Systems Laboratory of Doshisha University aims to develop an information system that provides a computing environment, such as personal computers, large-scale computers, built-in systems of home electric appliances and automobiles, that is accessible to anyone from anywhere at anytime. We plan to accomplish this by integrating computers through networks.
  Our laboratory has been developing a system to achieve the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals. We thought that the Language Grid is the most suitable technology that can be used to overcome the language barriers in the systems used worldwide. We are now developing PolyBooks, a platform for collecting, translating, and distributing textbooks, by fully utilizing the functions of the Language Grid in the system. PolyBooks was highly rated at the software competition hosted by Microsoft (Imagine Cup), and our team was selected as the top three teams for the final in Japan. The final match will be held on March 30th, and the winner will advance to the world competition to be held in Egypt.
  We will know the result by the time this newsletter is released. We strongly hope that we will be able to spread awareness of the great potential of the Language Grid not only in Japan but also throughout the world.
