What is Language Grid Playground?

Language Grid Playground provides easy access to the Language Grid, and allows anyone to try out various language resources and language services using a web browser.

Language Grid Playground also showcases research results and technological development related to the Language Grid.

Examples of real-world challenges, such as creation of new language services using language resource composition, or application of the Language Grid technologies to real-world site with language needs, are also introduced through this website.

The source codes running Language Grid Playground are open to public; the Language Grid Playground team supports research and development carried out by universities and nonprofit organizations in relation to the application of the Language Grid technologies.

Each language service in the Playground is categorized into one of three language service categories:

-BASIC
The BASIC service provides interfaces for easy selection and usage of the language resources that are provided as web services.
-ADVANCED
The ADVANCED service provides new language services created by combining existing language resources and language services. Research results are also made public.
-CUSTOMIZED
The CUSTOMIZED service provides customized services to organizations having specific language needs when carrying out intercultural activities.

Meanwhile, Language Grid Playground in Test showcases the latest Playground features under development. Since the features are under development, there is no guarantee that they will work properly.

Please note that the "in Test" site is for sharing Playground development information among geographically dispersed development team.

Access Control in the Playground

The Playground maintains access restriction on users to protect language resources provided through the Language Grid. Users are divided into two groups, and different access restrictions are applied to each group as follows.

Temporary User
Temporary users are users who are not logged in.Temporary users can try out each service in the BASIC, ADVANCED, and CUSTOMIZED category up to 100 times a day.
Registered User
Registered users are users who have registered with the Playground website and are logged in. Registered users can use each service in the BASIC and ADVANCED category up to 1,000 times a day. They can use affiliated organizations' customized service up to 10,000 times a day. They can also try out non-affiliated organizations' customized services up to 100 times a day.
