What kind of people are interpreting? Are they certified interpreters?
There is no certification for medical interpreters in Japan at present. Our interpreters however demonstrated high quality and were hired at the selection committee, and have been attending workshops to improve the interpreting quality.
At the selection committee, we weigh heavily not only theie language ability but also their expressiveness and communication ability.
After they were selected at the selection committee, they need to go through trainings at the medical front and become certified interpreters.
Also, we have regular workshops on health care system (iryouseido), interpreting ethics, self-management, interpretation technique and etc that are neccesary to acquire basic knowledge and support for medical interpreters.
