To federate Service Grids, federation of Service Grid Operators and connection of Service Grid Servers are required.

Federating with Other Operators

To federate with an Operator, your organization should first be its Affiliated Operator. To be an Affiliated Operator, your organization should conclude the Agreement with the Operator as the User with the consent from the Operator.

In the case that the User wishes to cease the status of Affiliated Operator after the conclusion of the Agreement, the consent from the Operator is also required. In this case, the User shall terminate its agreements with the users of its own Service Grid or shall take necessary technical measures to prevent such users from accessing the Operator's Service Grid.

Connecting Service Grid Servers

The procedures for connecting Service Grid servers will be available in August 2010.

Types of Service Grid Federation

Service Grids can be federated within the same types or across different types.
  • Federating the same type of Service Grids: When federating the same type of Service Grids, Operators of the Service Grid should mutually conclude Agreements and become Users of each other's services. Then, services can be mutually shared among the connected Service Grids. For example, when the Language Grid in Kyoto and the Language Grid in Thailand are federated, Users of Language Grid Kyoto Operation Center can use the language services that are registered in the Language Grid in Thailand, and so can create more composite language services.
  • Federating different types of Service Grids: When federating different type of Service Grids, Operators of the Service Grid are not necessarily required to mutually conclude Agreements and become Users of each other's services. For example, the e-Learning Grid Operator can be a User of the Language Grid Operator so that Users of e-Learning Grid Operator can use the services provided by the Language Grid to multilingualize e-leaning services. However, the Language Grid Operator is not required to be a User of the e-Learning Grid Operator necessarily.
